By Aaron Hill, Commercial Agent | Goldmark Commercial Real Estate

I recently announced my candidacy for Fargo City Commission. That decision is rooted in something core to my belief system, both as a business owner and as a commercial real estate professional: strong leadership strengthens communities, and strong communities strengthen markets.

Commercial real estate does not operate independently from public policy, infrastructure decisions, or civic engagement. Every office lease, retail development, industrial expansion, and multi-family project is influenced by how well a community plans, invests, and leads.

Serving on the Fargo Park Board the last four years has given me a firsthand view of how thoughtful community leadership directly impacts long-term economic growth and it has reinforced why leadership matters now more than ever.

Quality of Life Is Economic Development

When people think about economic growth, they often focus on jobs, tax base, or development incentives. While those factors certainly matter, quality of life is just as important.

Parks, trails, public spaces, infrastructure, and strategic planning create communities where people want to live. Where people want to live, businesses want to operate.

From a real estate perspective, that translates into:

  • Strong residential demand

  • Healthy retail corridors

  • Office and industrial growth

  • Long-term property value stability

While Park Board decisions may not always seem like economic development, they certainly play a part.

Stability and Predictability Drive Investment

One of the most important factors investors look for is predictability and stability. Cities that plan responsibly, invest strategically, and collaborate effectively create confidence.

Fargo has built a reputation for steady growth, practical leadership, and transparent collaboration between public officials and private stakeholders. That reputation has helped our region outperform many similar Midwestern markets.

Through my professional experience, I have seen how important stability is to making long-term business decisions.

The Link Between Public Leadership and Private Growth

Commercial development relies on more than market demand. It relies on:

  • Infrastructure planning

  • Zoning clarity

  • Transportation access

  • Responsible budgeting

  • Open communication between stakeholders

When civic leadership is engaged and forward-thinking, projects move more efficiently. Effective collaboration between public officials and the private sector creates strategic and sustainable planning, which benefits everyone.

Why Leadership Matters Now

The Metro continues to grow as it continually attracts new individuals, families, and businesses. While growth presents tremendous opportunity, it also requires careful planning and steady leadership.

The decisions made today will shape our community and real estate market for decades to come. They will influence housing affordability, business attraction, workforce development, and long-term property performance.

My experience as an entrepreneur, community volunteer, Fargo Park Board Commissioner, and commercial real estate agent has given me a broad perspective on how interconnected these issues are and I can attest that strong leadership is not separate from economic development; it supports it.

Looking Ahead

Healthy communities create healthy markets. When cities prioritize quality of life, fiscal responsibility, collaboration, and thoughtful growth, the entire region benefits.

My commitment to serving Fargo comes from a belief that engaged, pragmatic leadership strengthens both our community and our economic future.

From parks…to policy…to private investment, it’s all connected.

And that connection is worth investing in.
